Fun and Friendly Algebra - Absolutely No Train Problems
This workshop will demystify the mystery of algebra because the study of algebra involves a variety of concepts such as patterns, generalizations, equations, and functions. These topics can be incorporated into the curriculum in interesting and challenging ways beginning in the elementary grades. Participants will learn how to teach math facts using algebraic approaches and how to teach their students to be number detectives and problem-solvers. Participants will explore number patterns and how the generalization of these patterns gets us to the mysterious “x”. Manipulatives will be used to understand the concepts behind standard form, expanded form, multiplicative form, to exponential form and algebraic form. Come with your sense of humor and be prepared to play with math!
